Amazing - 26 Things

I was trying to come up with something for Amazing. I thought those fuzzy little yellow and black caterpillars are amazing, but alas, I couldn't find one. I thought it might be amazing if the scale moved downward, no such luck. I thought it was amazing that my daughter was playing her piano songs willingly. But then, the teen came home from college with her grade on a recent test. I found that to be amazing. Considering how she did on the last test, this grade was AMAZING! (piano pic added at the bottom, just for double amazement. *wink*)

I haven't posted for a couple weeks. Haven't had a moment to go out and take new pictures with my Nikon. Didn't take the time to modify and post pics from our outing by the lake (except the Reflections pictures.) Finally taking the time today.

I thought all during March, I'd post my favorite DETAILS pictures. I' have a love for details. I like to capture items up close or pictures of things that look out of place. That's what I'll be posting in all of March. Or until I get bored. :)

Picture taken out at the Marina. The lane to the Marina docks were locked with an old fence and this doorbell. I guess in case you need to get ahold of someone? Ding dong... Anyone home? This old doorbell seemed to stand out against the hard metal of the fence and the soft white snow.

I built a light box today to help with obtaining better closeup pictures. Helps with items I want to photograph for sale or detail.

The cat decided all the lights would make for a great sleeping place. Nice and warm. Now I have to clean fur out. Can you put a lock on a light box somehow? lol

Day 3 Beauty Challenge - Reflections

In taking more pictures with the new camera than I have taken with other cameras in years past, I'm finding what interests me. I love details. Little bits of things to look at; doorknobs, fenceposts, the way the fingers wrap around another hand when you're hold it. I love color. I ran around my art studio last night taking pictures of anything pretty and colorful that caught my eye. I also love repetition (as evidenced in this post.) Today, I realized I like reflections. It's good to know what you like, don't you think? I can never decide what to eat or wear, let alone what to do most of the time so it was nice to know, I have preferences in photography.

Day 2 Beauty Challenge - Beautiful Art

The teen and I went to the Nelson Atkins museum a couple weeks ago. One of my favorite paintings was this. It's made on a wood shell frame, in the shape of a baseball diamond. It's been graffiti'd, 3D items attached, painted, overpainted, sprayed, papers added, etc...

One of the reasons I probably love it so much is because I have a 'thing' for numbers. Love seeing them in art. Plus, my lucky number is on this piece, '32'. (Can you find it?) I love the mix and mess of the whole thing. Just makes you want to grab some spray paint and go to town. Too bad I didn't take a pic of who the artist was. That would have been helpful. *sigh*

I stopped by Bluebirdbaby's blog today and saw that she is initiating a 30 days of beauty photography challenge (blinkie thingie over in the right column.) I figured I could do that! Who knows, there's got to be beauty around me somewhere! lol I'll be doing the same over on my art blog as well, but with different pics.

Day 1 - I saw this yesterday while out in the beautiful snow. Looks like 'someone' left 'something' out (aka: DH.) Can you guess what? It's funny how something can sit somewhere and be sitting there so long that it becomes a fixture and you don't notice it anymore. But the moment you change its appearance, you realize once again that it's there!

Seem to be falling behind a bit on my photo posting project. Ahhh, life. How busy are you.

We had the most beautiful snowfall today. You know that kind that flutters down in big clumps, clinging to the branches 2 inches thick? The kind of snowfall that casts a quieting blanket over the whole world, you just want to stand and embrace the silence? That is what we had at our house. The girls threw their homeschooling aside and ran out to build a fort. DH came home early and helped them complete an igloo. Our predicted 1-2 inches turned into a whopping 7-8 inches of gorgeous white packing snow. Beautiful!

Skywatch Friday - 24 & 25/365

The teen and I went down to the Plaza last weekend for a day of photo taking. The buildings there are beautiful, some set in the style of spanish homes, terracotta roofs, etc... If you look closely at the closeup photo, you can see small strings of lights. Every Thanksgiving, they light the entire Plaza up with Christmas lights and keep them on til mid January. I have Christmas ornaments with this lit scene on it.

The sky that day was shifting colors of gray, pinks and blues as the sun tried to break through the clouds as it set. So pretty.

The teen and I went to see the photography exhibit at the Nelson Atkins Museum last weekend. We've joined the 'Shutterbug Club' at out local church that hosts monthly outings for picture taking.

It was amazing to me the different type of printing methods I knew nothing about:

Daguerreotype
Ferrotype

and much much more I can't remember. The teen is taking film photography classes at college and now I'm just a bit jealous to get my fingers all processy to develop my own pictures.

I'm sure there are others who love to photograph shadows. The best thing about them is they're always changing. In this instance because of the stairs and railings, the shadows were like a pattern that repeats. I love repetition. It's beautiful. (pic taken at Silver Dollar City.)

I wonder what this ornery cat is smiling about? I'm sure he has just done something bad. He is very full of mischief, getting into cabinets, crawling under beds dragging things you will start missing soon. He is inventive too. He wants to be outside so every,time I come in from taking the dog out, he is desperate to sneak out. One time he didn't 'try', he just JUMPED OVER the returning dog and dashed out in the back yard. Sneaky little thing!

I'm still learning all about focus and f-stops and the like with this new camera. I love how the focus was on the Nikon word and the cards fade into the background. We've been playing cards lately. Any game will do... Canasta, Phase 10, Spades or one of my favorites; Spit. We used to play Spit in high school in 9th hour when the bad kids were having their hour of detention. No, I wasn't in detention but we just liked to hang around after school, sitting on the floor, playing cards, oogling the boys. I distinctly remember doing handstands against the lockers too. Now that probably would have landed us in detention if someone had caught us. I think I have a picture somewhere...

Traveling down to Silver Dollar City (in Branson, Missouri) recently, I snapped this sunset out the car window while speeding by at 70 mph. When I got home I realized the picture was actually quite pretty and not fuzzy as I originally thought. So with a little bit of color tweaking, this is the final result. I love the contrasts of bright and dark. The lines you see in the sky are, in fact, power lines. This is for Skywatch Friday.

The girls find it super hilarious when Clemie the dog sleeps on the bed. She doesn't want to miss a thing so she is usually sleeping with her body all contorted and twisted sideways but her head is straight forward facing me. They laid down beside her to mimic her stance. Diet breaker anyone? If you were near this, it would seduce you into having a piece, or three. Homemade 2" thick cheesecake with cherries. It's definitely food fallen from heaven. Yum. (enjoyed at my DH and DB's combined birthday party last Sunday.) No, I wasn't able to resist.

I found a new challenge to participate in. Ruby Tuesday. Anything red apparently. This works for that theme; the cherries were especially vibrant red. Now I'll have that song stuck in my head all week!

DH received a box of 11 puzzles as a white elephant gift this Christmas. No one has touched them until today. My new toy has arrived! I received a Nikon D3000 for Christmas but after much playing, I realized I really wanted Live View and video capabilities. Luckily a friend was in the market for just such a camera. I sold to her, and then bought the D5000 with 2 lens; 18-55 VR and the 55-200 VR. I'm uber excited. I'm reading my way through 'David Busch's Nikon D5000 Guide to Digital SLR Photography'. Kind of like I'm taking a course. That way I'll learn everything there is to know about this camera. Fantabulous pictures will be forthcoming!
